Brief description

Formal landscape planning is the central planning instrument of nature conservation and landscape management. It makes nature conservation and landscape management objectives spatially concrete and is thus the basis for precautionary action at local and supra-local level. Informal landscape planning looks for images and strategies to understand landscapes together with different stakeholders and to design visions for sustainable development.
Formal landscape planning compiles comprehensive information on landscape (ecosystem) functions and land uses for defined planning areas. It identifies the resulting requirements for action for nature and landscape and develops targeted measures. Informal landscape planning focuses on methods of co-creative analysis and development of landscapes, which in particular also take into account the perceptions of the people who use, maintain and change them.
In the interaction of formal and informal planning, development ideas for the future of our landscapes and ideas for strategies, planning and projects emerge.
The content of the module includes the basic tasks and working methods, planning, implementation and participation processes as well as the integration of landscape planning into the system of spatial planning in Germany. In an exercise part, work steps of (inventive) stocktaking and assessment, development of goals and scenarios, spatial images and the preparation and presentation of the results are tested on the basis of current tasks.

Knowledge Broadening

Students understand the basic features of landscape planning tasks, working methods and processes. They understand the goals and tasks of open space preservation and landscape development at different scales.

Knowledge deepening

Students are able to carry out exemplary work steps for the development of landscape planning objectives and future visions for planning areas and to present their results.

Knowledge Understanding

Students can comprehend knowledge creation processes, understand target knowledge and generate transformation knowledge.

Application and Transfer

Students can carry out exemplary work steps for the development of landscape planning objectives and future visions for planning areas and transfer their results to similar tasks.

Academic Innovation

Students discuss current landscape planning issues in the context of landscape transformations around the land turn.

Communication and Cooperation

Students learn to subject landscape planning concepts to critical analysis and evaluation and to present these results in an understandable and descriptive manner and to represent them in discussions.

Academic Self-Conception / Professionalism

Students approach an understanding of the professional field of landscape planning by learning about typical working practices and current professional discussions.
