More Information

Living, working, or spending time abroad helps students advance in many ways. That is why we offer international excursions. This changes the perspective on various academic questions: How exactly does the global flow of goods for food and raw materials function? What cultivation and processing methods are used abroad? In addition, working in other countries expands intercultural competence, which is important for many in their later careers.
If you would like to live and study abroad for a longer period, we recommend spending a semester at one of our international partner universities:
Internationalisation at home
Research cooperation
Research is especially exciting when it is practice-oriented. One example is our cooperation partner, DIL – German Institute of Food Technologies e.V. in Quakenbrück, in the Osnabrück region. The internationally active institute, with around 200 experts in food technology and food sciences, offers students in the field of food production an optimal opportunity to engage in practical research. The institute focuses on developing innovative products and production processes. In addition, DIL conducts analyses regarding the sensory properties, safety, and quality of foods, prepares expert reports, and advises companies on quality management.
Joint activities with DIL: Lab internships at DIL’s technical center in interdisciplinary teams and using state-of-the-art technology with strong practical relevance
Cooperation with companies
Apetito AG, August Storck KG, Coppenrath & Wiese, Froneri Ice Cream Deutschland GmbH: these large companies from the food sector are based in the Osnabrück region or its surrounding areas. And that is only a small excerpt of the many companies located here, because the city of Osnabrück lies at the center of Germany’s food industry. On the state border between Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, a large number of medium-sized and large food-processing companies are concentrated.
We have always maintained close cooperation with companies from the food industry. Accordingly, the possibilities for our students are diverse: Company visits as part of excursions.
- Offering of internship positions for students
- Assignment of topics for project and final theses
- Guest lectures on special topics
- Assumption of teaching assignments in the degree program
- Participation in the program advisory board of the degree program
- Collaboration in research projects
Welcome to Osnabrück — experience the best of university life!
Welcome to the City of Peace, Osnabrück, a city known for its vibrant student life and inspiring academic atmosphere. As one of Germany’s most renowned university cities, Osnabrück offers a unique combination of historic charm and modern education.
In Osnabrück, you will not only find top educational institutions but also a lively and diverse student community. The city offers a wealth of cultural events, leisure activities, and a vibrant nightlife, with something for everyone.
University sports at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and Osnabrück University offer a wide range of activities, with basic offerings being free of charge. Additional sporting events are offered for a small fee.
Events such as the student-organized outdoor festival “Terrassenfest” or the “Maiwoche,” a multi-day city festival in the heart of Osnabrück, round out the diverse leisure and cultural offerings and give students opportunities to engage outside the classroom.
Moreover, Osnabrück provides excellent infrastructure for students, including modern libraries, research labs, and recreational facilities. The city is well-connected and offers a high quality of life for students from around the world. Discover the best of university life in Osnabrück and be inspired by our welcoming community and vibrant atmosphere.
Haste Campus is located in the north of Osnabrück and is surrounded by a sprawling park landscape.
The site of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Landscape Architecture offers a wide range of “green” degree programs and numerous networking and teaching opportunities for students. In addition to lecture halls and the library, the campus also houses part of the university’s own experimental farm, with greenhouses, experimental fields, and a perennial garden. The Waldhof experimental farm can be reached within a few minutes by bicycle.
Further teaching and research activities are carried out in modern laboratories using the latest technologies or through cooperation with industry partners. Direct application of what has been learned is made possible by using the experimental facilities for student exercises, projects, and final theses.
In addition to the optimal combination of science and practice, the campus also offers you opportunities for relaxation and recreation in nature. Breaks can be spent on the expansive green spaces on campus or together with fellow students in the cafeteria. Community is highly valued at Haste Campus. We place great importance on an open atmosphere in which everyone feels welcome. Various activities, such as a joint semester start on campus, promote interaction and community.
To integrate the topics of sustainability and environmental protection into everyday life, not only has the curriculum been adapted: with energy-efficient buildings, solar panels, and sustainable projects at the experimental farms, a greener future is actively being created.
In the study program Food Production Engineering and Business, you will be trained specifically for tasks related to the professional production of food. The basis for this is both scientifically sound knowledge and strong practical relevance. A special feature of the program: you will learn both business and technical-natural science skills equally. The program prepares you to work primarily in interface and leadership positions. That means, after completing your studies, you may, for example, coordinate project teams or, with corresponding professional experience, lead individual business units. For this reason, the curriculum conveys both business management and food technology knowledge — the core modules are closely interlinked. With this expertise, you as a graduate have extensive opportunities to establish yourself in various areas of the food industry and to answer the following questions competently:
- How are raw materials processed in the best possible way, and what type of packaging is suitable for a product?
- How is a product developed and brought to market?
- How can one work cost-efficiently while maintaining high quality?
- How can safe production be ensured?
Applying theory in practice — in the lab and in internships, at home and abroad
Thinking through work processes, trying them out, improving them, and also making mistakes in order to learn from them: As a university, we place great emphasis on ensuring that our students not only learn theoretical knowledge but also apply it practically. That is why an important part of your studies consists of exercises, lab internships, and group work, in which you can apply theory in practice. This provides you with a strong foundation; the refinement takes place through the development of key competencies. As a graduate, you can work in interface and leadership positions. To prepare you, we offer seminars on communication and presentation during your studies. Your analytical and interdisciplinary thinking, teamwork skills, goal orientation, and self-reflection are also trained. Here, too, you apply the learned theory practically: for example, you solve practical tasks in project work in a goal- and solution-oriented manner.
