Food Production Engineering and Business (B.Eng.)
That's what sets us apart!
Lively & diverse
Processing plant-based and animal-based products into high-quality, safe foods using modern production technologies — around 6,000 companies with more than half a million employees in Germany are working on this exciting and demanding task. The food industry is thus the fourth-largest industrial sector in Germany. Everything from small and medium-sized enterprises to large international corporations is represented.
As diverse as the industry and its products are, so too are the jobs in food production. This diversity is reflected in your studies through a variety of modules and practical courses.
Innovative & market-oriented
10 years — that’s how long brewing has been part of the Haste Campus. Developed by and with students. And just like in a real company, the work on the Haste Campus Beer and its marketing continues to evolve. What happens if I use the recipe on a different brewing system? Is so-called computer-based “yield pricing” — fluctuating prices based on demand, like with airline bookings — also profitable for beer? And how can beer be successfully marketed in an e-commerce shop? Students work on these and other questions in real technical, market research, and sales projects — and are successful in the market. You too can become part of this team during your studies. Further information about the Campus Beer can be found on the shop page www.campusbier.de.
Economically & technically focused
Today, a close interlinking of technical and business management know-how is a prerequisite for the success of companies — also in the food industry. Creating this connection is the goal of your studies in Industrial Engineering in Food Production, offered at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the German Institute of Food Technologies e.V. in Quakenbrück. State-of-the-art lecture halls and laboratories as well as a technical center with the latest process technology offer you excellent conditions for successful studies.
Well-founded & practice-oriented
The program prepares you with a scientifically sound and at the same time practice-oriented education for interesting fields of work in the food industry. Modern processing and packaging technologies, the implementation of lean, cost-efficient production processes, methods of product development and sales, as well as aspects of quality management in food production are just some of the many topics taught here. In project modules, you can take up current practical questions and work on them in small groups with fellow students, usually in direct cooperation with industry companies.
Practical relevance and the up-to-dateness of the teaching content also play an important role in the instruction. For example, Prof. Dr. Frank Balsliemke took second place in the nationwide “Professor of the Year” competition organized by the UNICUM Foundation in the category “Economics/Law” for his outstanding commitment and practice-oriented teaching approach.
Individual & international
During your studies, you can also set individual focuses and freely choose modules from an extensive catalog. Courses from neighboring fields at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (e.g. agricultural sciences, business sciences, or engineering sciences) open up additional specialization options that are unique in Germany in this breadth. In addition, excursion weeks and guest lecture series with speakers from across the food industry are regularly offered, and semesters abroad are possible at numerous partner universities, e.g. in Scotland, South Africa, or the USA.
